Thought For Food @ Center Space / / Pride Parade / / Josue Posada's House

A few things are going on this weekend. More details for farther down in the email.

  • Thought For Food will be a free discussion on food security as part of Food Revolution Day. I will be one of the panelists discussing the topic. It takes place this Saturday from 1-2pm at Center Space located at Admiral Kidd Park (On Santa Fe Ave in Long Beach just north of PCH). Facebook event: click here. More details below.
  • Pride Parade is Sunday, May 20th from 10:30 - 12:30 along Ocean Blvd. We are postponing work at Josue Posada's house that day so that we may partake in observing / participating in this important event. If you would like to walk with Foodscape Long Beach in the parade (with our cute little banner), come join us! We will meet on the Bluff area at Ocean Blvd and Coronado Avenue at 9:00AM. More details below.
  • Josue Posada's Yard turnover will resume at 2:00pm until about 6:30 on Sunday. We need volunteers! The afternoon will be a hands-on workshop on sheet mulching, tree / veggie planting, seed starting and soil amending. Time dollars for time bank members :-). The more folks we have the more work we can do! Details below.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend! Please, if you can, just respond to rsvp to any of these events, just so I have a rough idea of who to expect.

Thought For Food:

As we all know, we are amidst an epidemic - obesity and diet related diseases are defining the health of the next generation. We want food education back in schools, universities, homes, communities and businesses.

This month, we join 450+ cities around the world in Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Day network and 50+ cities in the Evolver network in discussing global and local food issues, asking people to consider their food choices and provide a platform for those with the skills and knowledge about food to pass that along!

Ryan Serrano, founder of FoodScape and Food Not Bombs member and Melina Paris, local journalist and Label GMO's activist, will speak on the food revolution that is happening in Long Beach and beyond. Jorge Rivera, founder of The Greener Good Farmer's Market will also speak and give a tour of Long Beach's newest market.

Together, we hope to give you plenty of food for thought, and thought for food!

This free discussion will take place from 1-2pm at Center Space located at Admiral Kidd Park (On Santa Fe Ave in Long Beach just north of PCH).

Pride Parade:

Join us as we walk in this year's Long Beach Pride Parade! It will be this Sunday, May 20th. We will meet on the Bluff area at Ocean Blvd and Coronado Avenue at 9:00AM. All of our participants must sign a city waiver. We'll hang out together until the parade starts (about 10:30AM). We'll probably get to the end of the parade route by about noon or 12:30pm.

Feel free to bring signs or banners to promote your group or event, dress up (or down), or bring your bike or wagon so that you and/or your kids can ride in style!

Josue Posda's House:

Located at 428 E 14th St, Long Beach CA, 90801. Please bring water, work gloves, snacks and hat. They are super handy! If you have means, please bring a signed copy of the work waiver. A copy is attached. We will have copies available there also. If you are a time bank member, let us know so we can compensate you with time dollars.
